The Christian life is not something we live in our own strength—it is a Spirit-filled life. Galatians 5:16 exhorts us, “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” Walking in the Spirit means relying on the Holy Spirit to guide, convict, and empower us each day. It’s about surrendering our will to His and allowing Him to produce His fruit in our lives.
The Holy Spirit equips us to walk with God in ways we never could on our own. He gives us understanding as we read Scripture, intercedes for us in prayer, and gives us the strength to resist temptation. Galatians 5:22-23 describes the fruit of the Spirit: “Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.” These qualities are evidence of His work in our lives as we walk in step with Him.
Walking in the Spirit also means being sensitive to His leading. He may prompt us to share the gospel with a friend, serve someone in need, or confess a sin that’s hindering our relationship with God. When we listen and obey, we experience the fullness of life that comes from walking with Him. Today, invite the Holy Spirit to lead you. Surrender your plans, your worries, and your decisions to Him, and trust that He will guide your steps in the way of truth.
