The Next Step of Baptism
Following the Lord

The Next Step of Baptism
At Maranatha Baptist Church, we believe that baptism is a vital step of obedience for every believer in Jesus Christ. As Baptists, we hold to the biblical teaching that baptism is for those who have personally trusted Christ as their Savior. It is not a means of salvation but an outward expression of an inward change—a public declaration of your faith and commitment to follow the Lord. Through baptism, we identify with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection, as symbolized by being fully immersed in water.

Why Baptism Matters
Baptism is a step of obedience to the command of Christ. In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus instructs His followers to "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." This command shows us that baptism is an essential part of making disciples. When you are baptized, you are following the example set by Jesus Himself, who was baptized by John the Baptist to fulfill all righteousness (Matthew 3:13-17). It is a public testimony of your faith, showing others that you have decided to follow Christ and are unashamed of your decision.

The Meaning of Believer’s Baptism
As Baptists, we believe in believer’s baptism by immersion, which means baptism is only for those who have made a personal decision to trust Christ as their Savior. This is different from infant baptism or baptism as a ritual. Immersion represents the death and burial of your old sinful life and the resurrection to a new life in Christ (Romans 6:3-4). It is a powerful symbol of the salvation that has already taken place in your heart and a declaration that you are now living for Him. Baptism is not what saves you—it is an act of obedience and a statement of faith that follows your salvation.
