As the risen Christ prepared to ascend back to the Father, He left His followers with a command that would echo throughout generations and across continents. This was not a mere suggestion or farewell speech—it was a divine mandate. In Matthew 28:18–20, Jesus declared, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations… teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.” The authority behind the command is the resurrected Christ, and the mission is global in scope and eternal in importance.

The Great Commission flows out of the power of the resurrection. Jesus was not sending His disciples out in weakness or uncertainty. He had conquered death, fulfilled prophecy, and secured salvation. He now commissions His followers with the full backing of heaven’s authority. We are not sent with our own message—we are sent with His. We are not sustained by our own strength—we go in His. And we do not go alone—He promises, “Lo, I am with you alway.” That promise gives courage to the fearful, strength to the weary, and resolve to the faithful.

This commission is more than evangelism—it is discipleship. Jesus calls us to teach, to baptize, and to train others to follow Him. This is not a task reserved for pastors or missionaries alone. It is the responsibility of every believer. We each have a part in reaching the nations—whether across the ocean or across the street. The empty tomb demands a response, and the response is obedience. If Christ has risen (and He has), then the world must know. If He has saved us, then we must tell others.

Let the resurrection compel you to action. The Great Commission is not finished. There are still unreached peoples, unsaved neighbors, and untold hearts waiting to hear the gospel. And Jesus has entrusted that mission to us. Today, ask the Lord to reignite your burden for the lost. Pray for boldness to share the gospel, for wisdom to disciple others, and for open doors to make Christ known. The risen Savior has all power. He has given us His command. And He is with us always. Let’s go.
