Empathy is a powerful way to connect with others and show the love of Christ. Romans 12:15 encourages us, “Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.” Empathy allows us to step into someone else’s experience, offering compassion and understanding during both joyful and difficult times.
Practicing empathy requires listening, patience, and a willingness to set aside our own perspective. Jesus modeled perfect empathy during His earthly ministry. In John 11:35, we see His heart of compassion as He wept alongside Mary and Martha after the death of Lazarus. Even though He knew He would raise Lazarus, He entered into their grief, showing the depth of His love and care.
This week, take time to truly listen to the people in your life. Show empathy by validating their feelings, offering encouragement, and walking alongside them in their journey. Empathy strengthens relationships by reminding others they are not alone.
