The work of missions is not just about reaching individuals—it’s about equipping them to reach others. The mission of the gospel is multiplied when believers disciple and train others who will, in turn, continue the work. This is the biblical pattern for spreading the gospel. Paul emphasized this principle in 2 Timothy 2:2, “And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” The most effective missions strategy is not just preaching the gospel but making disciples who will go on to make more disciples. Multiplication, not just addition, ensures that the mission of God reaches generation after generation.
Jesus modeled this process with His disciples. Though He preached to crowds, He invested most of His time in a small group of men who would carry His message to the ends of the earth. Instead of trying to reach the world on His own, Jesus prepared His followers to continue His work. The result? The gospel spread rapidly, and the early church multiplied in ways that no single person could have accomplished alone. Missions is not only about bringing people to Christ—it is about training and equipping them to bring others to Christ as well. If we are faithful in discipling new believers, we ensure that the gospel continues beyond our own reach.
Every believer has a role in this multiplication. You may not be a pastor or a missionary, but you can invest in someone’s spiritual growth. Whether it’s mentoring a young Christian, leading a Bible study, teaching a Sunday school class, or simply walking alongside a fellow believer in their faith journey, your investment has eternal significance. Proverbs 27:17 reminds us, “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” Discipleship is not just a church program—it’s a way of life. It happens in conversations over coffee, in one-on-one Bible studies, and in intentional relationships where believers encourage one another to grow.
Today, ask God to show you someone in whom you can invest spiritually. Pray for opportunities to disciple and encourage others in their walk with Christ. When we commit to multiplying the mission through discipleship, we ensure that the work of spreading the gospel does not end with us—it continues, grows, and reaches the world. Will you take part in this great multiplication?
