Selfishness is one of the greatest threats to healthy relationships, but through Christ, we can overcome it. Philippians 2:3-4 challenges us, “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.” True love requires us to set aside our own desires and put the needs of others first.
Overcoming selfishness begins with a heart surrendered to God. When we draw closer to Him, we are reminded of His selfless love for us, which inspires us to love others the same way. Romans 12:10 says, “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another.” Choosing to prioritize others over ourselves not only strengthens relationships but also reflects the humility of Christ.
Today, ask God to reveal areas of selfishness in your heart. Pray for His help to put others first and to love selflessly. As you do, you’ll find that your relationships grow deeper and more meaningful.
